Investment Performance

Performance Chart

This chart illustrates the long-term relative investment performance achieved by Tim Allsop (together with the team at Abax Investments), either through the funds he has managed at previous employers, or currently at Abax Investments.

The chart starts in December 1995, when Tim was appointed as fund manager of the Syfrets Prime Select unit trust at the company, then known as Syfrets Managed Assets. Tim managed this fund until June 2000, when he moved to African Harvest Fund Managers and commenced managing the African Harvest Rainmaker unit trust (with Anthony) - the blue line starting in June 2000 illustrates this.

In March 2003, Tim was appointed as the outsourced manager of the FTNIB Prime Select unit trust (Syfrets Managed Assets having been subsequently renamed FTNIB Asset Management) and in July 2003, Nedcor acquired the African Harvest Unit Trust Management Company, including the Rainmaker Fund. As part of a rationalisation process, Prime Select and Rainmaker were merged in November 2003, and the combined fund became one of Abax Investments' first three clients at the time of the firm's inception. Today the fund continues to be managed by Tim, Omri and rest of the team at Abax Investments and the partnership in the retail market with Nedgroup Investments remains very strong.

The performance shown is a function of capital appreciation only, and so does not include income distributions, which would have added a further 3-4% per annum to the fund's returns.

The chart also to reflects relative performance against alternative investments available to clients.

It is an incredible achievement to consider that the funds under Tim's management have delivered an EXCESS ANNUAL return of 7.8% versus the All Share Index and an EXCESS ANNUAL return of 5.3% versus the Average of the General Equity Sector every year for more than 15 years!

Anthony Sedgwick worked with Tim in the management of Prime Select from December 1995 until December 1997, and has worked with him on the management of Rainmaker Fund since June 2000.

Marius van Rooyen worked with Tim at Syfrets Managed Assets from June 1998 until June 2000, and again since the formation of Abax Investments in July 2003.

Omri Thomas joined the investment team in February 2007 and has worked very closely since then with Tim on the management of Rainmaker Fund.

The formation of Abax Investments brought the team together to ensure that the strong track record is maintained and that the quality of investment management is enhanced going forward. The investment approach remains consistent with that which has been applied over the years and which has developed with the growth in the professional team.
