Abax Investments which traded as Polaris Capital from the firm's founding in 2003 until it changed its name in late 2009 is a specialist domestic South African listed Equity Fund Manager.
The abax was the predecessor to the abacus. Developed by the ancient Greeks it is considered the earliest form of arithmetic assistance developed by man. It consisted of a stone tablet covered with sand and with grooves cut into the stone. It used pebbles positioned on the tablet to indicate values.
